Bill Gates Episode 6: Sam Altman
If you ask people to name leaders in artificial intelligence, there’s one name you’ll probably hear more than any other: Sam Altman. His team at OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of what AI can do with ChatGPT, and I loved getting to talk to him about what’s next. Our conversation covered why today’s AI models are the stupidest they’ll ever be, how societies adapt to technological change, and even where humanity will find purpose once we’ve perfected artificial intelligence. I Changed By Mind About Consciousness
Physicist Federico Faggin is none other than the inventor of both the microprocessor and silicon gate technology, which spawned the explosive progress in computer technology we have witnessed over the past five decades. He is also probably the world's most well rounded idealist alive. Mr. Faggin approaches idealism from both a deeply technical and a deeply personal, experiential perspective. In this interview, Essentia Foundation's Natalia Vorontsova engages in an open, free-ranging but very accessible conversation with Mr. Faggin. Watch More...

Consciousness: Not just a problem for philosophers
Consciousness isn’t just a problem for philosophers. Kmele Foster sat down with scientists, a mathematician, a spiritual leader, and an entrepreneur, all trying to get to the heart of “the feeling of life itself.”
In the AI age, the question of consciousness is more prevalent than ever. Is every single thing in the universe self-aware? What does it actually mean to be conscious? Are our bodies really just a vessel for our thoughts? Watch more...

There is a possibility that artificial intelligence will become conscious
Mathematician Marcus du Sautoy
Q. Do you see AI as a new species?
A. I think it’s a really interesting and relevant image for the future because I think at some point, we will have to let AI evolve. I think we need to see it more as a tool… The best comparison would be with a telescope because I think the development of the telescope allowed Galileo to see things in our solar system that we had never seen before. Artists Use Tech Weapons Against AI Copycats
Artists under siege by artificial intelligence (AI) that studies their work, then replicates their styles, have teamed with university researchers to stymy such copycat activity.
The artists turned to free software called Glaze created by researchers at the University of Chicago. Glaze essentially outthinks AI models when it comes to how they train, tweaking pixels in ways indiscernible by human viewers but which make a digitized piece of art appear dramatically different to AI. Why 2024 will be the year of ‘augmented mentality’
In the near future, an AI assistant will make itself at home inside your ears, whispering guidance as you go about your daily routine. It will be an active participant in all aspects of your life, providing useful information as you browse the aisles in crowded stores, take your kids to see the pediatrician — even when you grab a quick snack from a cupboard in the privacy of your own home. It will mediate all of your experiences, including your social interactions with friends, relatives, coworkers and strangers. Read more here...
